Chinese Smoked Chicken (Red Chicken)

Updated: Feb 15

This tasty chicken dish is a favourite amongst Chinese takeaways all across the UK.

A sweet, salty, smoky dish, packed with flavour and so versatile!

In this recipe, we cook the chicken in a pan with oil, but this can easily be altered to suit your dietary requirements - try using an oil alternative and air frying the chicken on skewers!

This can also be oven baked, just pop onto skewers and in the oven for around 20 minutes until cooked through!

Perfect served with fried rice, noodles or as a delicious snack.

We use chicken breast, however chicken thighs, drumsticks or even another meat or alternative works great!

You can skip the fresh chillies on this too, if you like, we just like that extra bit of spice!

Ingredients

Method

  1. In a large bowl or container, add the chicken, seasoning and 1tbsp oil or alternative - mix well until chicken is fully coated and set aside to marinate for at least 1 hour (we found that overnight works best)

  2. Heat oil in a large pan and add the chicken, stir fry until almost cooked through, add the sliced chillies and cook for a further 1-2 minutes until the chicken is cooked.

  3. Serve with rice.

Alternatively, this can be made in the air fryer, thread the chicken on to skewers or lay flat on a tray & cook at around 180C for 12 minutes.
